New Mexico would become the first U.S. state to set up its own government-operated marijuana stores and subsidize medical cannabis for the poor under a bill brokered between Republicans and Democrats, as a new wave of states weighs legislation that would legalize recreational sales and consumption.

A Texas House committee is scheduled to hear testimony on Monday about a bill that would decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana.

“This bill is long overdue. This is a bill that solves a problem, Get the government out of it.”

The Georgia House overwhelmingly approved a bill Wednesday allowing farmers to grow hemp for CBD oils and other products.

Bills to loosen marijuana laws are gaining traction in both parties.

Marijuana legalization advocates came into 2019 expecting it to be a huge year for cannabis, and lawmakers around the country are not disappointing them so far.
