Law & Crime

With a majority of states in the country enacting medical marijuana laws, cannabis in the workplace has become a hot button issue for business owners seeking to fashion appropriate workplace regulations for lawful cannabis users.

Baltimore prosecutors won’t charge people for marijuana possession, but police are still making arrests. Result: a hazy cannabis stalemate.

It’s an unanticipated hiccup for the rapidly growing hemp industry, which relies on interstate trucking to transport hemp from farms to processing labs that extract the compound cannabidiol, or CBD, from the raw plant material.

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) quietly issued an advisory earlier this month clarifying rules around mailing cannabis preparations, saying that “some CBD products derived from industrial hemp can be mailable under specific conditions.”

The state of Texas is taking a big step toward legitimizing the use of CBD oils. It’s removing hemp from the state’s list of controlled substances on April 5.

Doctors would have wider discretion to prescribe marijuana to patients under a proposal before the General Assembly.
