The Silverpeak Apothecary in Aspen, Colorado, was founded in 2009 by Jordan Lewis. After Colorado residents voted to legalize recreational marijuana in 2013, Lewis redesigned his shop to offer a variety of marijuana products and accessories.
The idea of a fancy pot shop is a new one to many Americans, mainly because marijuana is illegal in a majority of states in the U.S. Silverpeak looks more like a jewelry store or a boutique wine shop than a place to pick up weed, however. Its site has a health and safety section, too, which maps out how to responsibly purchase cannabis, a guide to consumption, possession and effects both for edible and smokable products.
Lewis, a doctor of veterinary medicine, started the shop after studying pharmacology; he was convinced of the medical benefits associated with cannabis and frustrated that he couldn't obtain medical marijuana for his father’s cancer treatment.
Silverpeak has its own offsite growing facility, appropriately dubbed High Valley Farm, which is located 20 miles away in the town of Basalt. Pot grows in the 25,000-square foot greenhouse, a controlled environment without pesticides or chemicals.
It sure beats a street corner.
