Sen. Rand Paul has been a vocal supporter of medical marijuana and is very strongly in support of both marijuana decriminalization and states’ rights to set their own policies. In the United States Senate, Paul has been an active supporter of cannabis reform: he is a co-sponsor of the Small Business Tax Equity Act of 2015 (S. 987) which would resolve the tax problem many cannabis businesses face, known as Section 280E.

WASHINGTON, D.C. Among the top contributors to Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul’s presidential campaign are the usual suspects - a financial management firm, a real estate developer, a manufacturer of hand tools.

But Paul is also getting significant support from an unlikely source for a conservative Republican – the marijuana industry.
