Ohio Cannabis Soars: Sales Hit $3B!
Cannabis sales in Ohio have officially broken the $3 billion mark, according to new data released by the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control (DCC) on September 12, 2025. The updated report shows how quickly the state's cannabis market has expanded since voters approved adult-use sales in November 2023. Total cannabis sales in Ohio now include more than $2.23 billion in medical marijuana sales and over $785 million in recreational sales.
Medical cannabis continues to be the larger segment of cannabis sales in Ohio, reaching $2,230,841,637. Recreational products, still in their first full year of availability, have already generated $785,523,577 a 224% jump compared with totals published at the end of 2024. Medical sales also rose about 8.6% over the same period. Between August 31 and September 6 alone, the average plant sale per one-tenth ounce was $18.50, while the per-gram average hit $6.54.
The DCC's latest report offers more than just cannabis sales in Ohio; it also details the businesses and professionals behind the program. As of early September there are 37 cultivators (23 Level I and 14 Level II dual-use certificates), 46 processors, and eight testing laboratories operating statewide. Dispensary activity is booming as well, with 165 dual-use certificates issued.
Patient and caregiver data further illustrate the scale of cannabis sales in Ohio. As of July 31, the state counted 459,408 registered patients and 41,995 caregivers. Among these patients, more than 26,000 are veterans, another 26,774 qualify as indigent, and 1,544 have a terminal diagnosis. To date, over 1.18 million recommendations for medical cannabis have been issued for 26 qualifying conditions ranging from AIDS to traumatic brain injury.
