Hemp cultivation wins approval in Connecticut Senate - Cannabis News

Connecticut farmers are one step closer to joining the burgeoning hemp industry after the Senate approved a bill to regulate the crop’s cultivation Thursday.

“Over 40 states in the United States have passed industrial hemp laws,” said Sen. Christine Cohen, D-Guilford. “I am looking forward to Connecticut doing the same.”

Hemp is a form of cannabis with lower levels of the psychoactive compound delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) than marijuana.

Hemp can be used to make clothes, food, pharmaceuticals and building products. Cannabinoids derived from hemp can be used for pain management, anxiety and other uses.
