Dan Patrick Baffled by Gov. Abbott’s THC Veto
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick described Gov. Greg Abbott's late Sunday night veto of Senate Bill 3, the legislation that would ban legal marijuana in Texas, as "surprising."
Political observers said having the two top state leaders at odds with each other is raising questions about a possible split within the Republican-run state.
"The governor and I will work together in the future and will disagree from time to time, but this is a fight that didn't need to be," Patrick said during a press conference on Monday.
A staunch supporter of the THC ban bill, Patrick said he was "puzzled" by the veto of a bill he expected would become law.
"It puzzles me why my friend Gov. Greg Abbott would, at the last minute, about 22 minutes after 11 p.m., decide to veto this bill," Patrick said. "One can only come to this conclusion, which surprises me: the governor of the state of Texas wants to legalize recreational marijuana in Texas."
