Medical marijuana could be the law in the majority of states by the time Election Day is over.
It's been 20 years since California punched through pot prohibition and became the first state to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes.
Now, 23 states have medical marijuana laws, and more than a dozen more have taken the half-step of legalizing the medicinal use of cannabidiol (CBD) only—not raw marijuana.
While some of the early medical marijuana states have now moved on to full legalization—and more are set to this year—states in the South and the Plains are just beginning to embrace the therapeutic use of the herb.
