Let's call a cease-fire on the NFL's senseless war against marijuana.

Kyle Turley played in the NFL for a decade, with stints in New Orleans, St. Louis and Kansas City. Over the years he has struggled with headaches, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts and lights sensitivity -- much of which he believes might stem from the head trauma he suffered during his NFL career. Using marijuana in privacy of his home, Turley says, has helped with all his issues, especially light sensitivity, anxiety and nixing suicidal thoughts. Image: Nelvin C. Cepeda

There’s a growing segment of athletes who believe the health benefits to be gained from marijuana outweigh the risks – especially when compared to the opioids they’ve long been prescribed.

The nation’s laws, and its perspective, on marijuana are shifting, and the NFL is trying to keep pace.
