The governors of twelve states sent a letter to congressional leaders on Monday, urging them to pass bipartisan legislation that would let states legalize and regulate marijuana without fear of federal intervention.

A bill approved by the Illinois Senate on Wednesday to legalize possession and sale of recreational marijuana for people 21 and older would create history-making “social equity” to repair damage done by the nationwide war on drugs, sponsors of the legislation said.

Federal officials would be blocked from punishing banks for working with marijuana businesses under an annual spending bill released by congressional Democratic leaders on Sunday.

More than a million Texans could be eligible to access medical marijuana through the Texas Compassionate Use Program, after state senators Wednesday unanimously approved a bill expanding the list of qualifying conditions.

With a few signatures Wednesday, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis dramatically expanded his state’s already historic cannabis laws, and fulfilled some of his campaign pledges to enhance the state’s significant cannabis industry.

A new poll by Global Strategy Group on behalf of Think Big Illinois, says a majority of people in Illinois want marijuana legalized.
