DENVER - Since the legalization of marijuana, there has been a list of challenges that has come up including regulating edibles and issues surrounding hash oil.
`Lawmakers have been playing catch-up. Families who moved to Colorado in search of health benefits from marijuana are trying to navigate laws.

It is Brian Wilson's daily reality.

"The concept was Colorado was the place to go," Wilson said, who moved to Denver from New Jersey in order to treat his daughter's severe epilepsy with marijuana oil.

"Once we started the cannabis treatment, especially adding in the THC, that's when we started getting rid of those daily, small seizures," Wilson said.

Democratic Representative Mike Foote says families like the Wilsons have to make the oil safely. He has drawn up a new bill that would outlaw the most dangerous methods for making marijuana concentrate.

"Right now the current draft is a work in progress,"' Foote said. "It is uncharted territory, and so there's a lot of questions to be answered, not the least of which is 'is it constitutional?'"

Attorney Rob Corry says the answer is obvious: it's not constitutional. He calls any prohibition on making hash oil a violation of Amendment 64.

"For it to happen at the state level I think is irresponsible," he said. "I think it's a waste of the legislators' time."

Back at the Wilson's, they make Vivian's cannabis oil with alcohol, which is legal under Denver's hash oil law. But, Wilson fears that at the state level, that right will be lost in the language.

"I'm extremely concerned, because I don't want my child taken away because I'm trying to save her life," Wilson said.
